Reasons Why Your Company Needs to Submit a Workplace Skills Plan (WSP)

Did you know that if your company has a salary bill of R500 000 or more per annum, you are required to submit a Workplace Skills Plan (WSP) and Annual Training Report (ATR) to your relevant SETA by the 30th April 2019?

A WSP is an important document for the organization as it:

  • Helps the organization to identify the relevant areas where skills are needed,

  • Helps the organization to decrease training and development costs by focusing on the relevant training that will address the identified skills gaps,

  • Outlines the interventions the organization will put in place to address the training and skills development requirements in the company, and

  • Provides important sector information to the relevant SETA on employee profiles and their skills needs.

By complying with the Skills Development legislation, a company is granted access to SETA grants available for skills training such as mandatory and discretionary grants that will subsidize the company’s investment in its employees. Failing to comply will result in a negative impact on the organization’s B-BBEE status and its Skills Development score. A registered and qualified Skills Development Facilitator (SDF) is required to compile and submit the WSP to the SETA. Formulating the WSP and ATR can be a labor-intensive and time-consuming process. KG Business Development has experience in playing the role of SDF to assist businesses with the completion and submission of these plans. This enables the organization’s time and internal resources to deliver on the company mandate and not worry about SETAs. For more information on how we can assist you, email info@kgbusiness.co.za

Getting A Qualification While Working

#Learnerships #Education #GettingAQualification #WorkplaceLearning

According to Stats SA, in the first quarter of 2019, the employment rate in South Africa showed an increase, where 63.4% of the total number of unemployed persons are youth (aged 15 – 34 years). Further findings showed that unemployed graduates were much less when compared to persons who only studied up to Matric or less.

In light of these findings, it is clear that education is still very much the key that unlocks further opportunities. There are a number of reasons why someone finds themselves in a position where they can’t go to a tertiary institution for further education. As such, most people feel that they have missed the boat to a qualification and a better career. This is not true.

There are many options available for further learning in line with the National Qualification Framework (NQF). You can enroll with an accredited skills development provider for skills programs and leadership that will lead to a National Certificate. Learnerships are workplace obtained qualifications – which means it is possible to further your education and get a qualification at your work.

As an employee, you can approach your employer to send you on training for career development or to sign you up for available leadership programs. There are benefits for both the employee and employer when it comes to leadership.

  • The government offers tax incentives to companies with leadership, and

  • The SETAs offer cash grants for learnerships, which means the employee earns an income while learning.

If you are looking to further your education and enhance your work skills, we offer a number of courses and qualifications that you can check out. Please contact info@kgbusiness.co.za for inquiries on our current running courses and leadership programs.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Not everyone gets an opportunity to leave high school and further their education the traditional way at a tertiary institution. Some people cannot afford to study further, so they find themselves going straight from high school into the work industry. This can be an advantageous position because you gain the work experience that most companies look for.

The challenge comes when you are looking for a promotion and a way to get your earnings increased. You find yourself in a situation when you see people who know less than you advance quicker just because they hold a qualification. If you find yourself in this position, then the recognition of prior learning is something you should look into.

If you find that:

  • A lack of formal qualification is standing in your way and blocking future opportunities,

  • You have been working for quite some time and have acquired a number of skills along the way, and

  • You want to develop your skills and career further based on your work experience.

RPL is a way of recognizing informal training and experience gained in the workplace or within the community. The skills, competencies, and experience you have acquired are valuable and can be used to help you gain credits that count towards a formal Certificate, Diploma, or Degree. RPL can be the stepping stone you need to lifelong learning without wasting time studying things that you already know. At KG Business Development, we are qualified to recognize prior learning that took place in a variety of settings, as recommended by the NQF principles. We offer assessments and advice, as well as the necessary documents for your RPL. For more information on how we can assist you, email info@kgbusiness.co.za
