Purpose
The purpose of the qualification is to enable learners to apply the relevant competences to fulfill the roles and responsibilities of a Local Government councilor such as:
- To act as representatives of the community they serve
- To provide leadership roles in a council.
- To act as custodians or guardians of public finances
Learners may access this qualification through the process of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
Exit Outcomes:
Upon achieving this Qualification, the learner will be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of how Local Government functions
- Fulfil the roles and responsibilities of councilors to achieve Local Government objectives
- Apply municipal processes to the councilor function
- Facilitate public participation and citizen involvement in Local Government processes
Duration: 12 Months
Learners will spend up to 40 days in the classroom and the rest in the workplace applying learnt skills and knowledge through coaching.
Learning and Assessment
Our methodology is interactive and experiential. Learning, teaching and assessment are integrated. Several practical assignments where learners apply knowledge, skills and attitude are covered.
